  • Why was Jesus crucified?Jesus was crucified by the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate around AD 30 on a political charge — claiming to be king of the Jews — after the Jerusalem temple leadership handed him over during Passover week. Rome saw a popular figure who could spark revolt; the temple leaders saw a threat to a fragile peace. The earliest Christians never disputed that history — they said God used that execution to deal with human sin, and pointed to the prophecies it fulfilled.
